Publications that Need Models

Educating yourself in the basics of modeling and the fashion industry is a great place to start. In fact, it’s just assumed by everyone that you know the names of top designers, as well as current trends in fashion and modeling styles. If you don’t know even these basic things, you are dead in the water to start.
How to start?

A great place to start: fashion magazines. Even if you only plan on modeling ski gloves in Minneapolis, it is essential that you be aware of the latest fashion trends. Where do you find these trends? Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Glamour, Mademoiselle, Seventeen, Allure, and Cosmopolitan.

Vogue:  the Cream of the Crop
Even if editorial modeling in Paris and Milan aren’t what you plan to do, you have to be completely in touch with current fashions. We put Vogue at the top of the list because it is one of the most sophisticated and well read magazines in the fashion industry. Once a model lands on the cover of Vogue, her career is pretty much in place.

Harper’s Bazaar:  Taking it a Bit Farther to the Edge
Harper’s Bazaar is very similar to Vogue and is a little more experimental than Vogue is. Also Harper’s Bazaar will do amazing things for aspiring models’ careers.

Elle
Elle tends to have a younger readership, and the models tend to be more athletic or unusual looking, often featuring them in more realistic poses and practical everyday situations.

Glamour
Glamour is more geared towards working women and it features many practical tips about how to take of your skin on how to apply makeup. If you are an aspiring model and have a fresh, healthy look, Glamour is more suited to you.

Mademoiselle
Mademoiselle captures an even younger market, such as women who have just finished college or beginning a career.

Allure
Allure tends to focus on beauty issues such as coloring, makeup, hair. Allure is a great source for aspiring models because they use a very wide variety of models because their aim is to show how all women can be beautiful.

Cosmopolitan
Cosmopolitan in recent years has become more of a lifestyle magazine than a purely fashion magazine. But the great news is that this is great for the aspiring model because it provides yet another market for models besides the difficult-to-reach “Milan and Paris” type markets.

GQ and Details:  Men Only
Men have no lack of publications in which to model. GQ features classic styles. Details magazine is for even younger men with a funkier, street look.
