Lika Key – What to Make of Her?

I’m not quite sure what to make of this one. Lika Key is Georgian (and we’re not talking Atlanta-and-peanuts-Georgia), and she is that optimal model age of 16. She’s damned cute, and has some potential…but I have basically no other photos of her. So, use your imagination.

Odessa is Texas oil country:  hundreds of miles between freeway exchanges, lonely oil pumps, vast limitless vistas.  In my numerous cross-country drives, I have always loved that section of the country.  Ever seen the movie Paris, Texas (1984) or The Last Picture Show (1971)?

West Texas:  highly under-rated country, and I say this quite seriously.

No point to this story.  No damn point at all.

You’re showing everyone else how to do things right.  This is exactly how a professional model acts and how she presents herself and how a top-notch photographer brings out all the best in her.

P.S. – Oh, yeah.  I just remembered the point about Odessa.  It’s this:  you don’t have to be from NY, NY to make it.  Proof positive right here.

Now, For All You Photography Geeks Out There…

This is what a top-notch photo set looks like.  The photographer, Michael Vincent, knows his stuff, and knows how to pull out every shred of insane greatness from his models.  Why does this photo work?

Well, there are about ten reasons why (color coordination with the truck, Brooke’s jaw angle, etc.  But pulling just one takeaway from this you find all these aggressive perspectives pointing straight to Brooke.  Vincent piled them on, and I didn’t even take the trouble to highlight all of them.

Now do you see the vast gulf between piss-ass, crappy amateur photos taken by your douchebag boyfriend–and a set taken by a seasoned pro who knows his craft?   The ultimate question to ask yourself:  Is my career worth going this extra step?  I believe it is.

A Model Education: Zara Chandler

After my earlier rant about the sorry state of models’ pix and the way they represent themselves, we have a breath of fresh air from Portsmouth, England.  Zara Chandler’s stats:

• Age:  23
• Height: 5ft 4 and half
• Bust: 34b
• Cup: b
• Waist: 28
• Hips: 32

But the real point here is to show you a decent photo set.  First, we combine several to show you how she presents a variety of poses, styles, settings.  #1 and #2 are conventional.  #5 displays backside (yes, models, you do exist in all 3 dimensions – get used to it).  Personally, I am glad to see no tramp stamp.  #6 is a close-in shot, showing how Zara can model baubles (yes, the industry needs girls to display rings, watches, bracelets, etc.); #4 is intriguing, and I discuss this in more detail further down.  Now, look at #7 and #9.  How do these work?  They are a bit bizarre, yes?  Well, that is the point.  What these accomplish is they break up the pattern that jaded eyes see so often.  Jaded industry eyes see the same things over and over – so you need to throw in a couple of simply strange photos…just for effect.   Now, jump below the photo and keep reading.

What we have here is just an error in composition.  It seemed like a good idea at the time to have Zara sling her leg over the baby carriage handle.  But when transmitted into the flat 2-D world, it doesn’t work.  There is something vaguely sexual about that handle approaching her lower region, and not sexual in a good way.  But this is no big deal.  Simply take the photo out of the set.  It seems nit-picky, but believe me, they notice things like this.

Finally, I absolutely love this last photo.  The composition is wonderful.  Notice those strong diagonals created by her legs?  Her entire body forms a triangle, which is perfectly off-set by the white background.

I would have to say my only beef with the set is the same one I have reiterated to models before:  model more fashion.  We need to see a greater range of fashion on Zara.  And that applies to everyone else, as well.  Otherwise, well done, Zara.

Models, I’m Getting Mad at You

We’re seeing far too much of this bad model behavior which is limiting your chances at ever becoming a model.  I am not the only one who has noticed this, and I am probably not the first to mention it.

• We’re talking about things like portfolios that are utter crap – portfolios that aren’t portfolios.
• Pix taken by boyfriends, sisters, or God forbid, by webcam.
• Bizarre and non-dignified tattoos, piercing, scarification.
• Etc., etc.

Have some self-respect, pull your act together, market yourself as a model properly.

Victoria Pitt: Model of Many Different Faces

We received a submission from an interesting model named Victoria Pitt. What is interesting about her is that, as evidenced by the photos, she can easily be the “girl next door” or a girl with a much sexier, edgier side. The South puts out a lot of beauties, but Miss Pitt surely is one of Summerville, SC’s finest.

But here is the remarkable part.  In this photo, she manages to combine both qualities at the same time.  This photo originally came to us horizontally, but we had to flip it 90 degrees to give you a better sense of her unique style.

Miss Pitt is 20 years old, 32/24/33, standing 5 feet, 5 inches.  She is an “A” cup, and considers her eyes her best feature.

Note:  tattoos on lower back and abdomen.

Model.Live – Review of Modeling Show on Hulu

Model.live, airing on Hulu.com

There is a series that you can watch for free on Hulu (www.hulu.com) called Model.live, in which three models Cato, Madeline and Austria, try to achieve their dreams as international models.

If you are accustomed to the frantic pace of other popular modeling shows nowadays, Model.Live may be refreshing.  Or disappointing.  It does tend to drag a bit.  And when you get to the end credits, you see that this is really a paid infomercial for the modeling agency featured in the show.  Hmmm, very suspicious.

Still it’s worth an episode or two.  At least you get a more level-headed view of modeling than these other shows.

Lisa Ann King – Straight Outta Medina

Driving back from Seattle today, I glanced over the bridge guardrail and saw the house of the world’s richest man, Bill Gates, who is worth something like $50 billion.  Even though it is kind of buried into a hill, it is something that Seattle-ites can spot if they keep their eyes peeled.  He lives in a community called Medina.

So when I saw that our newest model, Lisa Ann King, comes from Medina, I thought:  Huh?  Turns out she’s from Medina, Ohio with 26,000 souls and about 30 miles from Cleveland.  Miss King is 5’4″ and is 22 years old, with 34/26/36 measurements, she certainly represents a breath of fresh air in this mostly agricultural community.

She states that she believes her eyes are her strongest features, and we must agree.  Note that we pull in closer in the last shot to show her unconventional and striking facial features, especially around the nose and mouth area…unique and lovely.
